Look, I really liked the last season of Stranger Things. I thought some of the acting wasn’t up to snuff, I thought some dialogue was hilariously cheesy, and I still thought it was rad. I still haven’t watched a movie/show that I thought deserved my ire for not meeting my expectations. I have thought a ball was dropped or something went wrong, but you can usually see that kinda thing coming based on politics surrounding entertainment. I re-watched the entire series before the finale and I’m honestly amazed that not only did the cast all still manage to be available, but no crazy stories (👀Madeline👀) caused a departure. Not only that, but people have continuously been interested despite everything going on. I don’t think people truly honor the humanity of the people involved with such a large undertaking over their desire to be entertained. There’s a stronger word than desire there, but people expect too much from entertainment.
Y’all do remember them kids got straight up harassed and asked super weird shit just because they were actors in a show, right? I’m not gonna lie, the moment/the hype before a story ends always amuses me because it’s as if people will yap about their dislikes because a thing that was, is not anymore. There’s anticipation that THIS will be the moment your expectations are exceeded despite your expectations being high as hell. Then comes this strange moment during the end where you start picking it apart, like someone getting defensive because they don’t want to deal with something being an end. You remember the hype for… Well, any Star Wars film? Or any franchise film that wasn’t releasing once a year or 2? Nothing will ever be as perfect or mind-blowing than your imagination of something that doesn’t exist. Except maybe Infinity Wars.
